- February 8, 2024Mason researcher Vijay Shah has joined a $2 million project to develop a system to secure 5G Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) architecture, a collaboration between Mason and Virginia Tech, Penn State University, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

- January 12, 2023On Jan. 9, over 400 students from five counties and 22 high schools came together at Mason for CyberSlam 2023, to get hands-on learning about opportunities in cybersecurity. The huge gathering was deemed a state affair, as interest in CyberSlam increased significantly from last year.

- November 28, 2022A Mason PhD candidate’s cybersecurity business won $50,000 from Pharell Williams’ Black Ambition prize contest. The contest being hosted in her hometown “put the icing on the cake.”
- October 18, 2022Assistant Professor Vijay Shah from the Department of Cyber Security Engineering at George Mason University's College of Engineering and Computing, teamed up with colleagues in Arlington, Virginia, to build drones that monitor and improve the safety of firefighters in action.

- April 11, 2022Duminda Wijesekera receives the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) Impact Award for his research projects ranging from autonomous vehicle security to smart building.
- March 2, 2022Mason students competed in VMI's Cyber Fusion, bringing home the first place trophy. The event is co-hosted by Sen. Mark R. Warner, the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative, and the Virginia Cyber Range.
